Hey everybody! Episode 73 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Sondra Hamilton. I met Sondra in the Sacred Vallery of Peru and saw she had a really good knowledge of plants. I have been wanting to talk about herbalism on this show for a while, so I thought Sondra would be a perfect person to speak about that. She is an herbalist and has studied a number of ancient traditions such as European herbalism, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a few Native American herbal traditions. It was a pleasure for me to sit down with her and have her share in her knowledge of plant medicine, various traditions, and how to integrate and learn from both plants, traditions, and our own innate wisdom. "Sondra Hamilton is a Mystic Herbalist, and Ayurvedic Health Counselor who works with the wisdom and elements of Mother Nature including: plants, stones, sacred mountains, water, air, ether, fire, water and earth.

In 2012 Sondra heard the calling from the plants and enrolled in a Plant Spirit Herbalist program in Denver, CO. She started to have a remembering process of healing others with plants and stones in previous lifetimes. This process led her to Peru numerous times to study with ceremonial plants, the Apus (Mountains) and Munay Ki Rites. The energy of Peru guided Sondra to continue her plant journey at Herb Pharm and The Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine in Asheville, NC. In 2015 Sondra immersed herself on the island of Kauai, Hawaii at Hale Pule where she completed a 200 hour Yoga and Ayurvedic teacher training. Sondra continued her studies at Hale Pule completing a 600 hour Ayurvedic Health Counselor Program. After the program she had a deep calling to travel to the source of Ayurveda and immerse herself in a Panchakarma at a Ayurvedic Hospital in Southern India. Her knowledge of health and healing has provided a deeper wisdom for integrating Eastern and Western healing modalities. Sondra continues to study with maestra Estela Roman in Mexico, learning Curanderismo from Aztec and Mexican Ancestral traditions.

Sondra has been blessed to have diverse teachers and guides on her path that have given her the opportunity to deepen her wisdom of the original medicines of Peru, Greece and India. Her love of plants, animals and Mother Earth extend into each healing session invoking a deeper evolution for self-empowerment. Ep. 72 - Jeremy Narby - Plant Teachers: Ayahuasca, Tobacco, and the Pursuit of Knowledge

Hey everybody! Episode 72 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Jeremy Narby. I was familiar with Jeremy for many years ever since the release of his popular book, The Cosmic Serpent. Jeremy recently released a new book, co-written with Rafael Chanchari Pizuri, called Plant Teachers: Ayahuasca, Tobacco, and the Pursuit of Knowledge. It’s a very good read and speaks about two plants that I have worked closely with: ayahuasca and tobacco. There has been a lot of literature released in the last decade about ayahuasca, but very little about tobacco, a plant in some ways equal to, and in some regards, more widely viewed as medicine than ayahuasca. I was very happy to hear that Jeremy had released a book talking about tobacco, because I feel there is a need for more clarity on this highly regarded plant medicine, and Jeremy is a great person to begin to speak about it. I really enjoyed this conversation with Jeremy, listening to some of his stories, hearing his perspective on ayahuasca and tobacco, and having him speak about the new book. Hey everybody! Episode 70 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Jerónimo Mazarrasa. Jerónimo is the Social Innovation Coordinator for ICEERS (International Center for Ethnobotanical Education, Research and Service). I was familiar with ICEERS as they collaborated with the Temple of the Way of Light, where I have worked, on one of the largest studies on the therapeutic use of ayahuasca. Jerónimo has been involved in this work for a long time and I really enjoyed this conversation. In fact, it is probably one of my favorites in terms of the topics covered, the knowledge shared, and the wisdom presented. We spoke about a number of topics from the history of ayahuasca, the different groups and ways it is used, how to navigate and think about its global spread, how to honor the traditions from which it came, and what the future of these medicines may resemble. I trust this episode will impart a lot of knowledge and thought and I felt I myself learned a lot from this dialogue.
