Ep. 97 - Dr. Tomas Frymann - Interbeing, Clinical Psychology, & Psychedelic Integration

YouTube version:

Audio version:

Hey everybody! Episode 97 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Dr. Tomas Frymann. Tomas was introduced to me by a mutual friend, Michael Kokal, who has a great podcast himself, End of the Road. Tomas is a clinical psychologist who recently completed his doctorate at Columbia University. He has worked as an ayahuasca facilitator, has worked with veterans working with iboga and bufo alvarius, and recently completed a Bwiti initiation in Gabon working with iboga. We spoke about all of these as well as his ideas of Interbeing, inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh. Tomas is a really good guy doing great work and has a varied experience of life which gives him a really interesting perspective. It was a pleasure for me to sit down with him and have him share, and I think you all will get a lot out of this interview. As always, to support this podcast, get early access to shows, bonus material, and Q&As, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

“Dr. Tomas Frymann received his PhD from the Psychology and Spirituality Lab at Teachers College, Columbia University. His research interests center on the study of consciousness and self-transcendence, with an emphasis on investigating the potential for self-transcendence to be taught conceptually through a framework of Interbeing informed by modern science, along with experiential practices, in service of driving social progress and improving life quality. Tomas’ core inspiration lies in helping create a world in which The Golden Rule - treat others as your self - is instilled in the very fabric of how we understand our identity. Outside of his academic work, Tomas competed as a professional skimboarder. He brings his love for the ocean and nature into applied curriculum development, leading workshops and retreats revolving around the exploration of life’s big questions amidst natural settings.”

Ep. 27 - Tatayo - Ebando: Iboga, Bwiti, & Gabon

YouTube version:

Audio version:

Hey everybody! Episode 27 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke Tatayo. I have known about Tatayo for a number of years as we share mutual friends and he comes from the same tradition that I worked with iboga with. He was called to Gabon and to iboga over forty years ago where he has been living and working ever since. It was an honor to talk to someone with so much experience working with such a powerful plant and a pleasure to hear him speak about his life, iboga, and his experiences and thoughts on Gabon and life. We spoke for almost three hours and it was a fascinating conversation and one of my favorites. I hope and think you all will get a lot out of this conversation. And a big thanks to Debbie Rivet for helping to organize and make this interview happen. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

“Tatayo (“Fruit of the Wind”) first came to Gabon in 1971 at the age of 21 and became a Gabonese citizen and settled in Libreville. He was the first white person to be initiated into the Bwiti Fang tradition in Gabon in 1979 and was later initiated into the Misokko traditions in 1994. Some would say that Tatayo has since “opened the door” to westerners in Gabon, and has served as a guide for numerous expeditions and missions including National Geographic, the BBC, and many others. He co-founded his first Gabonese NGO in 1981, which has since lead to the creation of Ebando in 1999 and is recognized as a healer and a Nima, someone who has freed and detached himself. Having initiated more than 350 banzis (initiates), he has supported hundreds of local people, or, he has indirectly supported thousands of local people, leaving a substantial positive footprint along the way.”

For more information on Tatayo and his work, visit his website at: http://ebando.org/

Also, Tatayo is offering online consultations and guidance for those interested in working with the Sacred Wood in Gabon. Contact him at: ibogabon@gmail.com

And if you’d like to know more about the different branches of the tradition, you can sign up for Ebando’s recent webinar called Bwiti: School of Life. All funds raised go towards supporting Ebando during these crazy pandemic times. https://ceibaibogaine.teachable.com/p/bwiti
