Ep. 83 - Alonso Del Rio - Ayahuasca, Ancestral Wisdom, & The Human Being

YouTube version:

Audio version:

Hey everybody! Episode 83 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Alonso del Rio. I had heard about Alonso for a number of years and two of my friends spoke very highly of him. Alonso is an ayahuasquero who lives and works in the Sacred Valley of Peru and has a medicine center, Ayahuasca Ayllu. He also wrote a very good book called Tawantinsuyo 5.0. I knew Alonso had a lot of wisdom to share and this interview lived up to my hope. Alonso has been immersed in this work for over forty years and is one of the first people I know to have worked with the Shipibo people. That experience and wisdom are evident when Alonso speaks, being able to bridge the world of plants to the daily world and to be able to bridge many concepts into ideas that are easy to understand. To me, this is a sign of wisdom and it was a pleasure and honor to have Alonso share in this deep conversation. Thank you to my friend Bruno Morey for the translation. The video version of the interview has subtitles while the audio version has English translation. As always, to support this podcast, get early access to shows, bonus material, and Q&As, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

Alonso del Río, lived in the jungle for 13 years following the training of a traditional healer under the guidance of Don Benito Arévalo, one of the most recognized Onaya Shipibo (medicine man), who died in 2005 at age 84.

After learning the traditional songs of medicine shared by his teacher, he receives his own songs and introduces the use of the guitar in ceremonies, creating a sacred bridge between cultures and creating a new musical genre called Medicine Music.

On the other hand his studies on comparative religions and ancestral spirituality led him to develop a proposal based on solid bases and perfectly adequate to today's seeker.

His research is captured in two books called "Tawantinsuyp 5.0" and "The Four Altars" and in several documentaries on sacred plants ("Urpillay Sonqollay", "The Medicine of Forgiveness").

To date he has published ten albums sharing the music he uses in his ceremonies

Ep. 82 - A Conversation From Mikeadelic Podcast - Plant Medicines, Principles, Cognitive Liberty, & Truth

YouTube version:

Audio version:

Hey everybody! Episode 82 of the show is out. This is an interview I did a few months ago with my good friend Mike on his show Mikeadelic. It was my third time on his show and I think this was our best interview yet. Mike did a great job leading the conversation and I think we went really deep into topics around plant medicine work, ayahuasca, tobacco, and principles and truth. We got into some of the areas where we have seen the plant medicine community fall short on principles and what could be possible antidotes. I think this was a really important conversation and one that I hope will spark thought and a deeper look into truth and meaning. If you enjoy this conversation, consider checking out Mike’s work. He has a great podcast and is doing really good work. And as always, to support this podcast, get early access to shows, bonus material, and Q&As, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

Ep. 81 - Jeff Chilton - Mushrooms: The Medicinal, Nutritive & Spiritual

YouTube version:

Audio version:

Hey everybody! Episode 81 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Jeff Chilton. I had been wanting to bring on someone since this podcast’s inception to speak about all of the different uses of mushrooms, from the nutritive, medicinal, and spiritual uses. So when I learned about Jeff and he agreed to come on, I was very happy as he really is the perfect person to speak on mushroom’s behalf. He has been working with mushrooms for nearly fifty years. He owns a company supplying high-quality mushrooms to other companies and has lived, breathed, and studied mushrooms and all of their benefits. I was really excited as we spoke about ancient cultures, esoteric philosophies, religion, and how plants and mushrooms play a pivotal role in perhaps the essence of all of these. Jeff is a really good guy with a lot of wisdom and knowledge to share and I think you all will get a lot from this episode. On a technical note, the Zoom meeting for some reason only recorded Jeff’s video and not mine, so you’ll hear me asking questions but only see Jeff’s video. Better that way than the other way! Jeff Chilton, raised in Pacific Northwest, studied Ethno-mycology at the University of Washington in the late sixties. In 1973 he started work on a commercial mushroom farm in Olympia, Washington. During the next 10 years he became the production manager, responsible for the cultivation of over 2 million pounds of agaricus mushrooms per year. He was also involved in the research and development of shiitake, oyster and enoki mushrooms which resulted in the earliest US fresh shiitake sales in 1978.

In the late seventies he was a co-founder of Mycomedia, which held 4 mushroom conferences in the Pacific Northwest. These educational conferences brought together educators and experts in mushroom identification, ethno-mycology, and mushroom cultivation. During this period Jeff co- authored the highly acclaimed book, The Mushroom Cultivator, which was published in 1983.

In the 1980’s he operated a mushroom spawn business and in 1989 he started Nammex, a business that introduced medicinal mushrooms to the US nutritional supplement industry. He traveled extensively in China during the 1990’s, attending conferences and visiting research facilities and mushroom farms. In 1997 he organized the first organic certification workshop for mushroom production in China.

A founding member of the World Society for Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products in 1994 and a Member of the International Society for Mushroom Science, Mr Chilton’s company was the first to offer a complete line of Certified Organic mushroom extracts to the US nutritional supplement industry. Nammex extracts are used by many supplement and food companies and are noted for their high quality based on scientific analysis of the active compounds.
