UWP Ep. 203 — Alan Scheurman

In this episode, I speak with Alan Scheurman about his journey into psychedelics, spirituality, and the Shipibo-Konibo tradition. We explore how encounters with ayahuasca and peyote changed Alan's worldview and opened him to spirit; his work with initiation and dieta in the Shipibo tradition; his experiences guiding ceremonies and diets; and his critiques of contemporary psychedelic practice and the so-called “Psychedelic Renaissance.” Alan has been working in this field for many years and brings a depth of experience, perspective, and curiosity to these subjects.

About Alan Scheurman

Alan Scheurman is a multi-hyphenate artist, teacher, and purveyor of applied consciousness. Under the moniker Santiparro, he has released visionary psychedelic-folk music since 2010.

On a medicine path for 18 years, and dieting in the Shipibo-Konibo tradition for 13, Alan has been guiding ceremonies and diets with the trust, respect, and blessing of his maestros for the past decade.

His work outside of ceremony moves freely between the sacred and the absurd, putting a lens to the strange contradictions of the “psychedelic renaissance” with the same curiosity he brings to consciousness research, expanded perceptual capacities, and the mysteries of reality. These explorations find their way into his music, writing, teaching, humor, and work for film.

Ep. 202 - Rakel Sanímuinaq - Inuit Shamanism, Ancestors, Nature, & Spirit

YouTube version:

Audio version:

Hey everybody! Episode 202 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Aviaja Rakel Sanímuinaq Kristiansen. I think this one of the more beautiful conversations I’ve had on this podcast. Rakel is a shaman of the Inuit people of Greenland. I think she speaks beautifully from a place of a deep experience knowledge of what she has discovered for herself, in her own journey of being born into a shamanic lineage, her struggles and shamanic illness, her journey of remembering, connecting with her ancestors and spirit, overcoming her fear through ceremony, and finding her calling and path in service of others. Rakel speaks with a beauty, grace and wisdom and I trust you all will gain much from her presence and wisdom. “Rakel was born and raised in Ittoqqortoormiit, a remote settlement in Northeastern Greenland. When she was only four years old, she told her mother that she would become a shaman. Growing up, she often heard stories about her family’s shamanic lineage and was deeply curious about what this heritage meant for their descendants. In 2012, she began her journey to truly understand how her ancestors lived and perceived the universe as an interconnected whole. She left modern society to immerse herself in nature and to learn directly from it from Silap aappaa,“the other worlds,” and the teachings they hold.

In 2019, she received her healer name, Rakel, and was initiated into the ancient lineage as an Angakoq (shaman). Since then, she has dedicated herself to bridging the spirit world with the modern human experience — finding ways to apply ancient wisdom in today’s world.

Through these profound and timeless methods of healing, Rakel helps people reconnect with their souls, something that has long been hidden or forbidden in many ways. As she teaches, “A soul that is whole is in balance with the world and in balance with itself.”

Rakel lives in Nuuk, Greenland, which is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. In addition to her shamanic work in Greenland, Rakel is internationally known through her participation as a leading voice in the multiple-award-winning documentary film The Eternal Song by filmmakers Zaya and Maurizio Benazzo of Science and Nonduality.”

“Adam Butler is a psychedelic philosopher and passionate DMT psychonaut focusing on mental health, neuroplasticity, self-exploration, and the extreme limits of human potential and ability. Combining an academically trained intellect, empathetic heart, and life-hardening experiences, Adam has found his niche in helping others overcome the fear associated with PTSD, depression, sexual repression, and addiction. By incorporating psychedelic compounds with deep meditation, lucid dreaming, and tantric practices he has changed from being an over worked, over-weight, stressed-out alcoholic asshole into a balanced, healthy, and sober friend and mentor to many. His books Butler’s DMT Field: A Brief History, Step by Step Recipes, and Personal Experiences From a DMT Saturated Consciousness, Butler’s Psychedelic Integration Field Guide: Advice on Integrating Psychedelic Experiences, With Insights on Creating a Life Full of Love, Connection, and Purpose, and The Alchemist of Tears: A Photo Diary of My Psychedelic Trip Across America have quickly become helpful and trusted resources in the psychedelic space.”
